We have had a fantastic day of culture and history. Pupils had a great time at the market in Bayeux, buying everything from baguettes to berets. One group even met a World War Two veteran in the town who has been visiting the area for the 75th anniversary of D-day. We then saw the over 900 years old Bayeux Tapestry which pupils studied in year 7. This afternoon we visited the American Cemetery in Normandy. There are over 9,000 graves and pupils were a credit to the school with their respect and appreciation shown. Some notable graves included two Roosevelt brothers, many unknown soldiers, paratroopers, four women and one with whom Mrs Thornton shares a surname. The visit coincided with flyovers from American heavy aircraft which was an amazing sight.
